#PSBlackOut - DO YOU OWN YOUR DIGITAL GAMES?
Someone made a fair point on my last post:
“I have yet to have a game that I bought digitally on my PS4 that I can't play on my PS5.”
Most people aren't waking up every morning discovering that games they purchased digitally suddenly disappeared.
The bigger question is:
WHAT DID YOU ACTUALLY BUY?
PlayStation in its latest email recently reminded customers in its terms that all digital content purchased you do not own, you only have a license to it.
You aren't purchasing that digital copy in exactly the same way you purchase and possess a physical disc.
Like when a video subscription service no longer has rights to a movie, (which happens all the time) it gets removed from access. Even PlayStation plus games get taken off PlayStation plus store. So yes, it's happening.
And that's precisely why I believe physical games should remain an OPTION.
And in many cases, a physical copy can remain useful without depending on continued access to the same digital storefront or account.
PlayStation will also be the first company to completely remove physical copies. Xbox has Xbox consoles that are digital only AND with physical. Movies can be watched digitally AND physically. Even PC still has access to digital copies AND physical copies of games if you want it (build your pc to meet your needs) . PlayStation is moving to taking one of those choices out entirely. Even where you CAN'T if you wanted to and are willing to pay for it. That's what this is ABOUT!
The customer decides.
That's what we're asking for with PlayStation.
Lets hope together to create change to Sony and PlayStation consoles, for them to care about consumer solutions.
💿 NO DISC. NO BUY.
