🚨 PS BLACKOUT — DAY 5 UPDATE

🌎 NEW INTERNATIONAL COVERAGE TODAY — AUGUST 27

The PlayStation Blackout continues to receive new coverage internationally on Day 5.

HIT.ro published new coverage today discussing the ongoing PlayStation boycott and the pushback against Sony's physical-game direction.

TechGenyz also published coverage today discussing #PSBlackout, digital ownership, and the August 23–30 protest.

Here is some more new news I found out.

Sony announced on July 1, 2026 that the PS3 PlayStation Store itself is being shut down, beginning in select markets this year with broader closures in 2027.

What does this mean? For PS3, that may be fine, we have physical copies of these games. But imagine in 10 years when the PS5 PlayStation store closes. Digital only games will be lost. There is no physical copies. no used copy to find. No disc to preserve. No physical copy to pass on.

That's why physical matters.

💿 PHYSICAL GAMES GIVE US ANOTHER PATH.

Another path to preservation.

Another path to ownership.

Another path to affordability.

And affordability matters more than ever.

💰 LOOK AT THE ECONOMY WE'RE LIVING IN.

Groceries cost more.

Gas costs more.

Housing costs more.

Entertainment costs more.

Subscriptions are everywhere.

When everything else is getting more expensive, gamers don't need fewer choices.

We need the ability to shop around, buy used, trade, sell and save.

Physical isn't just about preserving yesterday's games. It's about protecting tomorrow's choices.

When families need to cut expenses, entertainment and subscriptions can be some of the first things reconsidered.

So why would we want FEWER affordable ways to access games?

Physical gives us another market.

Buy used. Sell. Trade. Borrow. Collect. Shop around.

When you're finished with a physical game, it doesn't necessarily become useless to you.

You can potentially sell it, trade it, lend it, or keep it.

📀 “BUT PHYSICAL MEDIA ALREADY LOST.”

Not completely.

CDs still exist.

Vinyl records exist.

Blu-rays and 4K Blu-rays still exist.

Physical books certainly still exist.

Want Spotify? Great.

Want a CD or vinyl record? You still have that option.

Want streaming? Great.

Want a Blu-ray? You can still buy one.

Want an e-book? Great.

Want a physical book? Walk into a bookstore.

WHY SHOULDN'T GAMERS HAVE THE SAME CHOICE?

⚠️ THIS TIME WE KNOW WHAT WE COULD LOSE.

Twenty years ago, digital distribution was new.

Today we've lived with digital ecosystems for years.

We understand subscriptions.

We understand licenses.

We understand delisting.

We understand server shutdowns.

We understand what happens when consumers become increasingly dependent on one digital storefront.

Because I want PlayStation players to continue having BOTH.

Digital AND physical.

New AND used.

Convenience AND choice.

💿 KEEP PHYSICAL PLAYSTATION GAMES ALIVE.

I've seen people say:

“Nobody fought to save Blockbuster. Digital took over. This is no different.”

But there IS an important difference.

Blockbuster filed for bankruptcy in 2010.

I was 14 years old.

And back then, streaming and digital distribution were still the NEW thing.

People were gaining a new way to access entertainment.

Today?

Streaming isn't new. Digital isn't new. Online stores aren't new. Subscriptions aren't new.

We've lived with them for years.

We know the benefits—and now we also understand the tradeoffs.

So this isn't about rejecting some exciting new technology.

The new technology arrived without completely eliminating the old choice.

That's what I want for gaming.

Digital AND physical.

⚠️ WE DON'T HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL IT'S GONE.

Twenty years ago, we didn't know exactly where digital entertainment would lead.

Now we do.

We've experienced subscriptions.

Licensing restrictions.

Delistings.

Server shutdowns.

Digital storefronts.

And increasingly expensive entertainment.

Once the PS3 PlayStation Store closes in your region, you won't be able to make new purchases of PS3 games, DLC, or other PS3 Store content through that PS3 storefront. Sony explicitly confirms this.

So I'm not interested in waiting another 20 years and asking:

“Why didn't we speak up when we had the chance?”

When Blockbuster filed for bankruptcy, I was 14.

I'm an adult now.

I have a voice.

And today social media gives ordinary consumers the ability to organize and make themselves heard in a way that wasn't nearly as accessible to us back then.

I need YOU to

🎮 Don't play during the blackout.

🛒 Don't buy PlayStation games or products during the boycott.

✍️ Sign the petition.

📢 Share the movement.

And you don't even have to prefer physical games to stand with us.

You only have to believe gamers deserve the choice.

💿 DIGITAL IS HERE TO STAY. PHYSICAL SHOULD HAVE THE CHANCE TO STAY TOO.

KEEP THE DISC. KEEP THE CHOICE.
